Cheering, Competitive Register View Cart

The Biddeford Recreation Department is now accepting registrations for Competition Cheering.
Due to Covid-19, we are following recommendations from the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development and guidance from the Maine Youth Cheering Coaches Association (MYCCA) .
The intention of the Biddeford Recreation Department is to provide the information and guidance necessary to assure and protect the health and safety of everyone and mitigate the possible spread of the Corona virus while offering a youth cheering program.

  • MYCCA is currently looking to offer virtual competitions in 2021. Although this possibility is still a work in progress. Virtual competitions are being offered for the Recreation age through the Varsity Cheer program, and also head to head competitions to take place with Saco, and Mid-Coast cheering. (These head to head competitions are at facilities that can only have up to 50 people in them at a time and are a work in progress although might not be a possibility.)
  • For virtual competitions the format will be done through a digital platform, like Zoom. This format is evolving and subject to change. Competition dates will be determined at a later date.

Covid-19 Prevention Protocol
For Participants
1. Upon arrival, the cheerleaders will enter through the Prospect Street side of the Rec center where they will be required to have a temperature check and health screening questions. Mask is required upon entrance of the building and during the screening process.
2. Once it is determined that the cheerleader is safe for practice participation, they will enter the gym area and are required to utilize the hand sanitizer station prior to entering the space.
3. If for any reason the cheerleader leaves the space, they will need to be sanitized to return back into the practice space and also do so through-out practice as needed or prompted by a coach.
4. According to the CDC keeping mask on during increased levels of activity is not recommended. Cheerleaders will remove their mask when on the cheer mat. Any time they are NOT on the cheer mat, a mask is required. We will keep mask in their own individual baggies for back up.
5. Physical distancing will be incorporated into practices

For Parents/Spectators
1.Parents/Spectators will not be allowed to enter the building and practices will be closed. Coaches will walk cheerleaders outside when practice is complete. If you need to talk to a coach, please wear a mask to do so.

Equipment Procedures:
In Between practices, the gymnasium will be sanitized, and this includes any equipment shared between athletes and the cheer mat. We will give a ½ hour between practices before allowing the next screenings/and practices to begin.
