Biddeford Recreation is celebrating the people, spaces, and programs that create a sense of belonging by recognizing July as Park and Recreation Month!

"Park and Recreation Month" is an initiative of the National Recreation and Park Association, developed to celebrate how communities are stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient because of parks and recreation. The theme this year is “Where You Belong”. This is a great way to highlight all the ways parks and recreation builds belonging in our community and across the country.  Here are some ways this work is supported locally right here in Biddeford:

Being an Advocate for Belonging: at Biddeford Recreation, we offer diverse and inclusive programming, allowing recreation opportunities for all! Our highly qualified and dedicated team of recreation professionals deliver creative and engaging programs for participants of all ages – this is just one way we foster belonging for everyone!

Health and Wellness: Biddeford Recreation programs that focus on health and wellness like jazzercise, pickleball, yoga, walking, and more re-kindle feelings of belonging through community and self-assurance. These offerings have not only allowed for fun, fitness and movement, but have brought neighbors together through community classes, events, and programs.

Kinship with the Land: The Parks Division through the Biddeford Public Works Department and the Recreation Department field crew support our community by maintaining beautiful fields, greenspaces, beaches, and parks that promote nature connectedness through harmony with the environment. Parks promote positive mental health by providing access to nature and encouraging recreational activity. Our parks aren’t just “Where You Belong”; they are also home to many flora and fauna that provide the foundation for a healthy ecosystem. These spaces support important environmental issues as well, including conservation, natural resource management, pollinator habitats, climate change, and more.

It’s time to share why parks and recreation is “Where You Belong!” Help us celebrate this month by sharing your stories and memories about what the Biddeford Recreation Department means to you and how parks and recreation has improved your lives.
